Is this you?

If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

  • Slow to get going each morning
  • Swollen ankles by evening
  • Aches with no clear reason
  • Sore for days after a workout
  • Aching after a short walk
  • Saying no to things you love

Aching like this isn’t just part of life. There’s usually a reason.

Why it keeps happening

Your joints hurt. The cause is often elsewhere in your body.

Joint care usually focuses on the joint itself, so what keeps it inflamed can get missed.

  1. 01

    Food

Sugar, alcohol or a food your body doesn’t tolerate can keep inflammation going. Eat them every day and your joints don’t get the chance to settle.

  2. 02

    Gut

Bloated or uncomfortable after meals? If your gut struggles with what you eat, inflammation can keep running all day, and your joints feel it.

  3. 03

    Nutrients

Your joints rely on nutrients like vitamin D and magnesium to repair everyday wear. If you’re low, small strains can take longer to heal.

  4. 04

    Liver

Your liver clears out waste your body has finished with. If it’s under strain, inflammation can linger and aches take longer to ease.

  5. 05

    Stress

Long-term stress and too little rest keep your body on high alert, and aches and swelling struggle to settle.

What you’ve tried

You’ve probably tried some of these.

Tap a card to see why it didn’t stick.

You’ve done what you were told. Nobody looked past the joint.

The real problem

Your sore joints may be where inflammation shows up first.

Most joint care works on the spot that hurts: a pill, an ice pack, a shot. That can bring real relief. But if something elsewhere keeps feeding the inflammation, the ache returns once the relief wears off.

Inflammation can run through your whole body, not just one joint. Foods your body reacts to, a struggling gut, low nutrients and long-term stress can all keep it going, and your joints are often where you feel it most.

One common pattern
  1. What you feelKnees and hips that ache, and ankles that swell by evening
  2. What’s driving itInflammation kept running by foods your body reacts to
  3. Where it startsA gut that struggles with what you eat, day after day

So we look past the sore joint to what keeps it inflamed.

How we help

Find what’s keeping it inflamed. Then calm it down.

  1. 01

    Test properly.

How inflamed your body is, possible food triggers, gut, nutrients, liver and stress, all checked together.

  2. 02

    Find the pattern.

You see what’s keeping the inflammation going, and why the same joint keeps flaring.

  3. 03

    Build your plan.

Custom supplements, a curriculum and 1:1 coaching for four months, working around what you can do now.

Who we are

Meet Dr. Anthony Alphonso and the Back to Wellness team.

We’re a functional medicine practice for people who’ve been told they’re fine but still don’t feel it. Anthony has been in practice since 2007.

It started with his son, whose eczema and gut trouble weren’t getting better with the usual treatment. Anthony went looking further than he’d been trained to, finished his functional medicine training in 2009, and watched his son’s health turn around. He’s been doing the same for patients ever since.

“I saw myself unable to get out into the woods, on the trails playing disc golf… I saw myself with a knee replacement which I never want to go through.”

“Doctors kept giving me more and more medications and I was not getting any better with multiple symptoms, multiple problems.”

“The swelling in my body has gone down to the point where my knee is rarely inflamed and full of fluid… my husband and I get out on the disc golf field and do 18 holes, we are hiking, doing yoga, we’re even going to set up an exercise studio in our basement.”

Still not sure?

The questions everyone asks.

But isn’t it just wear and tear?

Some of it may be. Inflammation often adds to it, and that part can be looked into. Plenty of our patients were told the same thing and found more going on.

But I don’t have time for this.

The first step is a 15-minute call. After that, coaching fits around your week, all from home.

But do I have to stop my painkillers?

No. Please don’t change anything on your own. We work alongside your physician, and any decision about medication stays between you and them.

But will insurance cover it?

No. Our patients invest in the program directly, and we walk you through everything on the call so there are no surprises.

But what if it’s something serious?

See your doctor right away if a joint is suddenly hot, red and swollen, follows a fall, or comes with a fever. Back pain with leg weakness or numbness, or bladder or bowel changes, needs the ER.

Ready when you are.
